December was the fourth coldest on record for Blacksburg, VA with an average temperature of 21 degrees.  That meant nights in the teens and daytime highs in the twenties...but never warmer than say 32 degrees.  We used 300 less kilowatt hours of electricity than last December...but just paid a whopping electric bill of $336!  That's the most we've ever paid.

We've had snow on the ground ever since December 5th.  It just doesn't go away.  The horses hang around the barnyard, creating a mess if there ever was one, making it difficult for me to clean-up after them.   So for me, tomorrow it's off to Turman Lumber for a truck load of pine sawdust.  Recently it's been in the fifties, and only now has all our snow gone away.  What a relief for us all here at the end of Magnolia Lane to see grass again...even if its sopping wet grass.

NOTES:--- Kristin is 19, a sophomore at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA, majoring in English...she only recently switched her major from Art to English.  She must maintain a "B" average to keep her scholarship.  Jessica is 22 and in her senior year at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.  She is an "A" student in Nursing at JMU.  She tells me she is interested in Psychiatric Nursing.  Being in the field she is in, she'll have a job waiting for her when she graduates in May, 2011.
