Obituary Number 10 __________________________________________
Richard Brian (Dick) Lynn (1934-2005) obituary graciously presented to the York H.S. Class of 1952 by his wife, Mrs. Christine Way Lynn by way of Carol Ritzmann Leonard, York '52.  Christine's Christmas, 2005 letter was written without Dick, but his presence was there, nonetheless.  She writes--- "Richard's pen fell silent a little after midnight on Friday, November 18th, 2005.  He was at our Pennsylvania home, asleep, in perfect peace, when he died.  Although his death came too quickly and too soon for us, it seems that he had become completely ready to let go from what had been a steadfast, dignified, and heroic struggle against his incapacitating illness. ... Although Rich's body had become almost completely paralyzed, his mind was alert and active.  He read constantly and loved the Sudoku Puzzles.  As his voice weakened, he maintained communication through his eyes and thoughts.  I always made the effort to listen carefully to what he was trying to say because it would be along the line of, ' Send in the estimated taxes today,' or ' Take the next exit.'  They were things I needed to know."

    Obituary Number 17 __________________________________________

Kenneth Eichenberger's (1934-2019) obituary was found by H. Bruce Downey, York '52, and appears here below...

Kenneth Bert Eichenberger, 85, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at his home in Billings, following a yearlong battle with Peritoneal Mesothelioma cancer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Bennett) Eichenberger; his son, Bob Eichenberger and wife Bonnie (Zuck) Eichenberger, and their children Abby and Charlie; his daughter, Carrie York and husband William York, and their children Bill and Peter; his daughter, Robin Nelson and husband Arne Nelson, and their children Catey and Courtney; his brother-in-law, Garry Bennett and wife Sonja; his sister-in-law, Florrie Bennett; his cousins, Lucille Bouton and Beverly Konicek; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick and brother-in-law Bill Bennett.

Born and raised in Elmhurst, Illinois, in what he called “the best of times” to Lucille and Clarence Eichenberger, Ken was a charmer from birth. At 10, he and his buddy snuck out of the house, took the train into the city, and then caught the L to Wrigley Field (the Cubs lost). Upon Ken’s return, his unsuspecting mother asked, “Did you have a nice day, Kenny?” and the next morning his teacher said she sure hoped he was feeling better.

Following a two-year service with the military, Ken returned to the University of Arizona, where he saw Barbara at the library for the first time. He asked his buddies, “Who is that beautiful girl?” They were married a year later. Ken graduated from Arizona with a degree in Finance. He completed his final dissertation on Inland Steel Corporation, then walked into their Chicago HQ’s asking for an interview and walked out with a decade-long career with Inland spanning Chicago, New York City, and Dayton, Ohio.

Ken had a fabulous wit and always put family first. He moved the family to Billings in 1969, bought Northwestern Auto Supply Company with his brother-in-law Garry and ran the business for 20 years. After a year of failed retirement, Ken and Barb opened a travel agency and traveled the country. He loved fishing on the East Rosebud at the family cabin in Roscoe, skiing with family at their condo in Park City, Utah, golfing at Laurel Golf Course, and serving as an active member of First Presbyterian Church.

He loved being the Patriarch of our family and adored his grandchildren. Whether it was teaching them to jitterbug or golf, or surprising every grandchild with silver dollars on their birthdays, he found time to get to know each one. At our last Christmas together at the beach, he went around the dinner table telling each grandchild what he felt their special and unique gift was to him. His love and devotion have grounded and shaped our family and will remain with us forever. Everyone who knew Ken said that he made them feel special.

The family wishes to thank everyone who has offered prayers and sent love and cards our way. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendship House and First Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at First Presbyterian Church, 2420 13th St. West. Condolences may be made at http://www.michelottisawyers.com.

Here is what I had to say at the Funeral Director's website --- ...
    H. Bruce Downey says:
    September 10, 2019 at 11:44 am
I probably know Ken from as far back as anyone — for we went all through grade school at Hawthorne Elementary
in Elmhurst, IL in the early 1940’s — then on to Hawthorne Jr. High School — and finally to York H.S. — graduating
together in 1952. Ken was always a fun-loving kind of guy deserving of the very best life has to offer. May Ken now
rest in the peace he so richly deserves — and in speaking for the remainder of the York Class of ’52 — we offer our
condolences to Ken’s family. Ö.H. Bruce Downey, York ’52Ö

Here are my comments posted in the Guest Book at where I found Duane's obituary:---

"...And shine it Duane did --- for he shined it on me..."

And here are a couple of anecdotes submitted by Duane's classmates at York HS:
The first is this one --- from Carroll Knight, also York '52:---
"Another one is gone. Duane was on my wrestling team. He was 130 pounds. He used to travel from N.C. to Chicago to see
a family member. Then he would drive to my home in Michigan on his way home. Always very upbeat." ...Carroll Knight, York '52****
Then this one --- from myself, , H. Bruce Downey, also York '52:---
As a spring sport, Duane and I played tennis for York. I remember one meet in particular.
We were at Riverside Brookfield (R-B) and we were in a rain-delay waiting to play our match.
We were expected to stay with our group --- but Duane and I decided we'd go see the Brookfield Zoo in the rain.
But the zoo was closed because of the rain. So we climbed the fence and jumped down inside the Zoo.
We were the only ones walking around. Soon enough the rain stopped --- soo we figured we'd better get back.
And so we did. But our coach --- Mr. Kunze, the York physics teacher --- was really mad at us for wandering off like we had
--- for our tennis match with R-B had been called-off --- and he wanted to get on home.
Still, Duane and I saw the Brookfield Zoo in the rain --- and how many of us can say that ?...H. Bruce Downey, York '52****

...and as presented by Duane's daughter --- Shauna McCartney Leinbach ---
on the occasion of Veterans Day, November 11, 2020 --- a photograph of Duane's gravesite:
