Stuart with his mother, Nancy, who is dressed in traditional Swedish dress in the back yard of Nancy's mother's house at Imperial Point in Ft. Lauderdale.  It was a time when Stuart lived with his Grandmother.  He was in-between jobs and in-between wives.  Notice his roller blades--- for he was known up and down the street as "The Prince of Imperial Point."

Stuart Dwight Downey (1960-2008)--- dearly missed son of H. Bruce and Nancy R. Downey, husband of Karen Downey, and father of Skye Elyse (1996), Logan Eric (1997), and Caleb Ethan (2000) Downey  

Dearly beloved Stuart:
 
It wasn't supposed to happen this way, but rest assured that the peace you longed for is now yours at last.  And the security you felt slipping away for those you loved the most has come 'round--- for even in death you found a way to provide for your children and for Karen in a way you felt you could no longer do in a world that came crashing around you.  And by the grace of God you were able to walk away from that terrible auto accident so that you could make sure that a day would come when little Caleb, and Logan too, could also walk away from the life-threatening tragedy of that fateful night.  Despite the weeks that slowly turned into months, it was you, Stuart, who would always be there for Caleb--- whether by day or by night--- always.  And in matters such as these, it was within the chapel walls inside that hospital where your prayers were answered for Caleb's full recovery.  And it was not until Caleb's recovery was assured that you would finally seek medical attention for your own injuries, despite your own pain and suffering.
 
And reflecting upon all the circumstances of life that were yours to bear over your last few months and even years, Stuart, I am reminded of the biblical passage about "no greater love..."   And this same passage will, in time, become forever mindful to Skye, Logan, and Caleb, as they too remember their Daddy.  And then too, like so many before us, I also find comfort in these words of eternal assurance ---"I go to prepare a place for you"--- from the Good Book (John 14: 1-7):---
 

 1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

 2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

 4And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

 5Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

 6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

 7If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
